CBD products being recalled in Ireland because they contain too much THC

THC is the active ingredient which gets users high.

SEVERAL CBD PRODUCTS in Ireland are being recalled because they contain too much THC – the active ingredient in cannabis which makes users experience highs.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) said the affected products range from food supplements to bottles of CBD oil which customers take by placing drops under their tongue.

Brand names of the recalled products are CannabiGold, Canapol and The Healing Stone, Phyto+ and The Herb Stone.

The FSAI found that “unsafe Levels of delta‐9‐tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) were detected in certain batches of CBD” and they were being immediately recalled.

The cannabis plant contains a range of cannabinoids – some of which are psychoactive. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is psychoactive and is considered a narcotic.

In Ireland, THC is controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Acts 1977.

A spokesperson for the FSAI said: “Distributors are requested to withdraw the product from the market. Retailers are requested to remove the products from sale. Food businesses that have sold the implicated batches of the implicated CBD products to consumers must display a point-of-sale notice in store and on websites if sold online, to inform consumers that the implicated batches of these CBD products are being recalled and the reason why.”

A full list of the recalled products can be found here

Unsafe levels? Don’t make me laugh. Microdosing THC is the best thing for chronic pain I’ve ever come across (better than fentanyl, tramadol, lyrica, amitriptyline, palexia – which made me lose my hair in clumps and lose my balance, falling down the stairs was a joy – talk about unsafe!). I miss those $6 THC pain patches available in 100′s of dispensaries across Colorado… must be so so dangerous that it kicks chronic pain to the curb. And this makes it impossible to get Charlotte’s Web, which is labelled as less than 0.3% THC. Yeah, so harmful it helps kids with epilepsy, how awful. THIS GOVERNMENT IS A JOKE.

@DB: There are also published studies on the benefits of cannabis for anxiety and pain relief, and studies on pharmaceuticals that cause mental disorders when abused. It is all about context. Where does cannabis come from? Strain? THC content per dose? Additives? Processing? Frequency of use? Method of use? All the more reason to legalise, and regulate – educated governments worldwide have chosen to do so.

Buckets of evidence on alcohol abuse causing mental disorders.

@William Tallon: It only “seems to contradict” if one stops reading after seeing the title. Keep reading, and you’ll realise that other substances (including alcohol) are implicated, and that the piece points out that an absence of regulations has implications for users in that THC is accompanied by unwanted chemicals in poor production scenarios.

In addition, this is not a scientific paper; it appears to be an educational course summary with a catchy title to lure in those who already want to be told that “marijuana” is bad.

@Fachtna Roe: Lucky I didn’t stop there so! You’re being rather disingenuous of course. You can find any amount of academic papers online dealing with THC toxicity. I used this particular one as it’s easy to follow. Please note I’m referring to toxicity not fatality. I take it all those researchers produce these clearly biased papers just to make marijuana look bad. It’s a conspiracy! All drugs legal or currently illegal have the potential for toxicity. To claim there is no toxic level of THC is medically untenable and would appear to be an effort to make marijuana look good. That’s not my expert view by the way as I’m not an expert in this regard and nor are you. It’s just a view based on reading several papers on the subject. They’re quite interesting. Maybe you should read them…

@Alan Byrne: the only risk they’re seeing is the one to the pharmaceutical industry. We’ve citizens of this country who have gone from 8 opioid pills a day, to none – just use cannabis and can live a normal, functioning life having been in rotten pain for years. They also have to leave their family in Ireland and move abroad to get medical cannabis. Who can pay several grand for Sativex every few months here? I can’t. What Gov don’t consider is the tax income that will be made when Ireland does inevitably legalise and cultivate here. They should just get on with it, instead of living under a rock. Colorado legalised medical cannabis for a range of conditions, and growing at home, 21 years ago……!

Disgusting the sheer backwardness of some government departments, its shameful.
These products are completely safe natural ways to treat medical conditions
    .
These products actually save lives as the prevent people with chronic disease or pain from falling to the very real dangers & severe side effects of opioids and opioid addiction (many pharmaceutical companies are being sued in the US right now, some have settled for $260 million, its the first of a wave, they are now called the narcotic kingpins ) which has caused an epidemic in USA where an average of 46 people die from prescription only! opioid overdosing a day ~ 17,000 people a year.

No one has every been recorded in history as having overdosed from cannabis. These natural and safe alternatives can save lives in Ireland.

And don’t tell me there aren’t lads in the Dail who didn’t enjoy some joints in uni, or now for that matter…!

THC is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis that produces the high sensation. It can be consumed by smoking cannabis. It’s also available in oils, edibles, tinctures, capsules, and more. Both compounds interact with your body’s endocannabinoid system, but they have very different effects.
